Whiplash Treatment

Whiplash from a Car Accident? Get Safe, Effective Care with our Newark Chiropractor

As traumatic as an auto accident surely is, you may feel doubly traumatized when you realize that your neck has sustained serious damage. The strong, sudden forces conveyed to your neck in such an incident can create the injury syndrome we call whiplash, leaving you with everything from neck pain to sensory and cognitive issues. But relief is at hand here at Diamond State Chiropractic, where we offer safe, effective solutions to whiplash from car accident injuries.

Understanding Your Whiplash

Whiplash can occur so quickly that you may have no clear idea what happened. In fact, the sharp backward and forward motions of the head that creates whiplash resemble the crack of a whip in their speed and intensity. The rest of your body remains relatively motionless in an impact, thanks to your seat belt and shoulder harness, but the head is free to go flying. A collision or sudden stop can therefore cause the head to snap backward, causing hypertension of the neck. It then rebounds forward, causing hyperflexion.

As you might expect, these exaggerated motions can do considerable harm to the structures of the neck. In extreme cases, your cervical spinal curvature might actually change; at the very least, cervical joints can be knocked out of position. Muscles and connective tissues can tear, while discs may herniate outward onto cervical nerve roots. These problems can leave you with:

  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Inability to move your head
  • TMJ
  • Headaches
  • "Brain fog" or memory problems
  • Vision and hearing abnormalities
  • Mood abnormalities
  • Pain, weakness, tingling or other symptoms in the arms/hands (cervical radiculopathy)

Relieving Neck Pain and Other Symptoms Naturally

The sooner you get whiplash damage diagnosed and treated, the more quickly, completely, and easily your neck can recuperate. Our chiropractic team will start by discussing your symptoms and the accident itself, while also evaluating your cervical spine in detail. Once we've determined exactly where the problems lie, we can administer natural, conservative care to help restore comfort and function without painkillers or surgery.

Chiropractic adjustments bring cervical vertebrae and joint components back into their normal alignment. This treatment not only restores your ability to move your neck, but it can also relieve issues such as cervical radiculopathy. Spinal decompression can further relieve neuropathy caused by herniated discs. Physiotherapy and corrective exercises can relieve pain, speed healing, and maximize mobility in injured soft tissues,
